Efficient Video Trimming with VLC- A Step-by-Step Guide to Cutting Your Videos

How to Cut Video Using VLC

Video cutting is a common task for many video editors, and VLC, a popular media player, offers a straightforward and efficient way to perform this task. Whether you need to remove unwanted parts from a video or create clips for sharing, VLC’s video cutting feature can be a lifesaver. In this article, we will guide you through the process of cutting videos using VLC Media Player.

Step 1: Install VLC Media Player

Before you start cutting videos, make sure you have VLC Media Player installed on your computer. VLC is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and you can download it from the official website (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/). Once the installation is complete, you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Open VLC Media Player and Load Your Video

Launch VLC Media Player and open the video you want to cut. You can do this by clicking on the “Media” menu and selecting “Open File” or by pressing the “Ctrl + O” keyboard shortcut. Navigate to the location of your video file, select it, and click “Open” to load it into VLC.

Step 3: Go to the Time-line

After your video is loaded, you will see a time-line at the bottom of the VLC window. This time-line allows you to navigate through the video and mark the points where you want to cut it.

Step 4: Mark the Starting Point

To mark the starting point of the video you want to keep, click on the time-line at the point where you want to start. A red vertical line will appear to indicate the start point.

Step 5: Mark the Ending Point

Similarly, to mark the ending point, click on the time-line at the point where you want to stop. Another red vertical line will appear to indicate the end point.

Step 6: Cut the Video

With the starting and ending points marked, you can now cut the video. Go to the “Media” menu and select “Convert / Save.” In the new window, click on the “Convert / Save” button. Choose the desired output format and file location for your cut video. Then, click on the “Start” button to begin the cutting process.

Step 7: Save and Enjoy Your Cut Video

Once the cutting process is complete, VLC will save the new video file in the specified location. You can now enjoy your edited video or share it with others.

Cutting videos using VLC Media Player is a simple and efficient process that doesn’t require any additional software. With just a few steps, you can easily remove unwanted parts from your videos or create clips for your projects. Give it a try, and you might find that VLC is more than just a media player.
